Pattaya Newspapers poor reporting – Again!

I know I have harped on about this before but Pattaya People really does seem to have stooped to new level now. I was eating the same cafe as the last time so once again picked up the latest copy of the Pattaya People Newspaper.

Within the first page or so they had described the suspect in the shooting of the two Russian girls as “the murderer”. As far as I am aware he has yet to be tried! For heavens sake is it so difficult to stick the work “alleged” in front?

The world and his dog knows that the police were desperate for a quick resolvement of this dreadful crime and I think most intelligent people accept the suspects “guilt” with a very large pinch of salt.

A few pages later there is a story about an alleged rape on a young girl by her uncle. The story concludes along the lines of “we hope they catch Khun XXXX (naming the uncle) so he can spend a long time in prison”. Whilst I am in total agreement that rape is the most heinous of crimes we also know that it can lead to malicious accusation (remember the case in Bangkok a couple of years back when an innocent man was executed after the victim “covered up” for the true assailant?). The guy has yet to give his side of the story but Pattaya People already has him hanged drawn and quartered.

I gave up after that story but the rest was no doubt more of the same.

This sad rag carries the healdine on the front page of every issue that “We dare where others don’t”. If that is REALLY the case then a little less a*** licking and a little more a*** kicking would not go amiss. How about some stories about the 90%+ of crimes in Pattaya that go unsolved. Or even, heaven forbid, some stories about the countless cases of police corruption and bribery that we hear about on a daily basis.

Now that really WOULD be daring!
